17-20 Most manuscripts (including Ƿ75 א A B C L W Δ Θ Ψ 1 13 Byzantine) have verses 17-20, in that order. D, however, supported by a few Old Latin manuscripts, omits verses 19b-20 (το υπερ υμων... εκχυννομενον). The Syriac versions tend to both omit certain verses and mix their order. The Curetonian has verses 19, 17, 18, in that order; the Sinaitic, verses 19, 20a (και μετα του δειπνησαι only), 17, 20b (in the form τουτο εστιν το αιμα μου η διαθηκη η καινη), 18; the Peshitta, verses 19 and 20 only.

26 Jesus answered them and said: Amen, amen, I say to you, you seek me not because you saw signs but because you ate from the breadloaves and were satisfied. 27 Work not for food that is destroyed but for food that remains unto life eternal, which the son of man will give to you. For God the father sealed him. 28 They said therefore to him: What shall we do that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said to them: This is the work of God, that you might have faith in him whom he has sent. 30 They said therefore to him: What therefore do you do as a sign, that we might see and believe you? What will you work? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert, just as it is written: He gave them bread out of heaven to eat. 32 Jesus therefore said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread out of heaven, but my father gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which descends out of heaven and has given life to the world. 34 They said therefore to him: Lord, always give us this bread. 35 Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not hunger, and he who has faith in me will never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you also have seen me and did not have faith. 37 All that the father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I shall not cast out, 38 because I have descended from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 But this is the will of him who sent me, that of all that he has given to me nothing should be destroyed, but I shall resurrect it on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my father, that everyone who looks on the son and has faith in him might have life eternal, and I shall raise him on the last day. 41 The Jews therefore were grumbling about him because he said: I am the bread that descended out of heaven, 42 and they said: Is this not the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How now does he say that he has descended from heaven? 43 Jesus answered and said to them: Do not grumble amongst yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the father who sent me draws him, and I shall resurrect him on the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: And they shall all be taught of God. Everyone who has heard and learned from the father comes to me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the father except the one who is from God; this man has seen the father. 47 Amen, amen, I say to you, he who has faith has life eternal. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 You fathers ate the manna in the desert and died. 50 This is the bread that descends out of heaven so that anyone may eat from it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that descended out of heaven. If anyone eats from this bread, he will live unto the age. And indeed the bread which I shall give on behalf of the life of the world is my flesh. 52 The Jews therefore were arguing with each other, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Jesus therefore said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, if you do not eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves. 54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I shall resurrect him at the last day. 55 For my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living father sent me and I live on account of the father, also he who eats me, that man also will live on account of me. 58 This is the bread that descended from heaven, not just as the fathers ate and died. He who eats this bread will live unto the age. 59 These things he said in the synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
